We
ride almost every weekend during the riding season. The ride
schedule typically alternates between Saturday & Sunday.
All rides depart from Manchester Harley-Davidson. Ride schedules
are included in our newsletter, discussed at our monthly meetings,
posted on the website, and recorded on the hot line. Chapter
rides typically have a predetermined destination and are always
led by a Road Captain. Ride lengths vary according to the
destination and the "fun" factor of the riders.
Members may leave the group at any time, but you should let
the Sweep Road Captain know youre leaving so they dont
follow you thinking you have a problem or a breaking down.
We ride in staggered
group formation. The group rides in a single travel lane.
The travel lane is divided into thirds. The Road Captain leads
the formation in the front left third of the lane. Following
members alternate the side third of the lane they travel on.
This formation allows each rider a safe amount of space that
they can use to avoid obstacles in their travel path. We offer
Orientation Rides for new members or those wishing to learn
more about group riding. Orientation Rides start with the
Riders Edge Group Riding Course. This was developed
by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and Riders Edge
(Harleys training division). The cost of the course
materials are covered by the chapter and the course is usually
taught by the Senior Road Captain. The course takes about
an hour. Then the group heads out on the road to try out what
they have learned. The group is kept small, less than 8 participants
and is lead by two Road Captains. There are frequent stops
for questions and pointers. The ride takes about an hour and
a half. Sign up for an Orientation Ride now!
It should be noted
that sometimes, due to unforeseen circumstances, the ride
information changes. That is the primary reason for our Hotline. The Hotline is a voice messaging mailbox that
gives the most current ride and scheduling information. Members
should always call the hotline as late as the morning before
a ride to check if there are any changes. The Hotline number
is (603) 437-7378. This is the most important tool we have
to provide up-to-date information to our members, please make
use of it.
All riders who regularly
participate in our rides must be members of our chapter, as
well as National HOG members. Members are permitted to invite
a non-member "guest" to ride with us once during
the year. In order to participate in chapter activities more
than once a year, "guests" must become a member.
As a H.O.G. Chapter
we are required to operate under the Charter for Local Chapters
(from H.O.G. National) and our By-Laws. New members are encouraged
to read both of these. They can be down loaded from our website
and are available at the monthly meeting.
The Manchester NH
chapter has a website. You can find us at www.manchesterhog.com
The site contains ride schedules,
pictures of chapter activities as well as links to other interesting
sites. You will also be receiving our Manchester NH Chapter Newsletter
(bi-monthly), which will keep you up to date with our meetings,
ride schedules, and special events.
